Phil Dyer, a Plano resident for 25 years, announced today his candidacy for Mayor of Plano (Place 6), currently held by Mayor Pat Evans who cannot run again due to term limits.
"Phil Dyer is a dedicated public servant and advocate for the citizens of Plano. Plano will be well served with a Mayor of his caliber. His leadership, integrity and experience are unparalleled and I am honored to be serving as his Treasurer," said Jean Ellis Newman, the 2002 Plano Citizen of the Year and 1989 Small Business Person of the Year.
Mr. Dyer has a long history of involvement in the community. For the City of Plano, Phil served on the City Council (1999-2005), the Planning and Zoning Commission (1995-1999), the Parks and Recreation Board (1986-1992), and the Horizon Committee (1984-1986), which created the first comprehensive plan for the city. In 1998, Dyer was selected as Plano's Citizen of the Year.
Among his numerous other civic activities have been leadership roles as Chairman of the Board of the following: Plano Chamber of Commerce, Hope's Door Women's Shelter, The American Red Cross of Collin County, the United Way of Plano, the Plano Balloon Festival, Medical Center of Plano, and Plano Community Home. Most recently, Dyer was the Chairman of the PISD 2008 Bond Committee.
"I have been honored to serve the City of Plano for the past 25 years, and I look forward to working to maintain the great quality of life that we enjoy in Plano. Due to term limits, we have lost, and will be losing, a number of talented, experienced City Council members. I believe that my extensive experience in Plano government and my career in finance will be a plus as we work through this difficult economic time."
"I will continue to work on the things that have made Plano an outstanding community: public safety, quality city services, fiscal responsibility, economic development, planning for the future, supporting our great educational system, and a commitment to our overall quality of life."
Dyer is the President and a Director of LegacyTexas Bank, an independent bank with over $1.5 billion in assets that has been headquartered in Plano since its founding in 1963. His wife of 30 years, Margaret, is a teacher at Hickey Elementary School in PISD. They have 2 adult sons. |
